Precautions

This medication contains two components, sitagliptin and metformin. First, an allergic reaction may occur when taking this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, itching, or difficulty breathing arise, it should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. Second, inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, may occur, so sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Third, the metformin component can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is characterized by excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body and can lead to dangerous conditions, with symptoms like weakness, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain. If these symptoms occur, this medication should be stopped immediately, and the patient should go to a hospital. Fourth, patients with impaired kidney function or liver dysfunction should avoid using this medication and undergo regular kidney function tests. Fifth, excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is safest to avoid drinking alcohol. Sixth, this medication can cause hypoglycemia, so caution should be exercised when skipping meals or engaging in vigorous exercise, and extra care should be taken when using it alongside other blood sugar-lowering agents. Seventh, if undergoing surgery or experiencing severe infections or dehydration, this medication should be temporarily discontinued as per the physician's instructions. Eighth, this medication is not to be used in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or in children under 18 years of age. Ninth, if severe joint pain or skin blisters occur while taking this medication, a doctor should be informed immediately.
