Monotherapy with 40mg of Pravastatin effectively regulates LDL cholesterol levels in high-risk adult patients with coronary artery disease. It is used for treating complex dyslipidemia, where triglyceride levels remain high and HDL cholesterol levels appear low. Therefore, this medication mainly helps reduce bad cholesterol, lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 capsule once daily with the evening meal. Taking it on an empty stomach decreases absorption, so it must be taken with food.

Precautions

This medication may cause symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness, so muscle-related tests must be performed before administration. Special caution should be taken for those aged 70 and above, or those with kidney, liver, thyroid issues, or high alcohol consumption, as the risk of muscle toxicity is higher. If muscle pain or weakness occurs, consult a doctor immediately and get tested; in severe cases, discontinuation may be necessary. This medication can affect liver function; therefore, regular liver function tests should be conducted, and if liver enzyme levels rise significantly, the medication should be discontinued. If kidney function is poor, do not take this medication, and kidney function should be regularly monitored during treatment. Pregnant women, women who could become pregnant, and breastfeeding women should not use this medication. Safety has not been established for children under 18 years old; therefore, this medication is not used in this age group. During treatment, watch for sudden shortness of breath, skin rashes, severe muscle pain, or any allergic or serious side effects, and visit a hospital if any unusual symptoms occur. This drug may interact with other medications, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. It is recommended to take it with food, and combining it with dietary changes and exercise helps enhance treatment effectiveness. Elderly patients should carefully monitor kidney function, especially for those over 75 years old who should use it more cautiously. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

Muscle pain, myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuria, acute renal failure, rash, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attack, respiratory distress accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), profound general malaise, sudden and severe symptoms.
