Precautions

This drug is a combination product containing sitagliptin and metformin, used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Firstly, sitagliptin can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, and serious skin diseases, so if such symptoms occur, the medication should be stopped immediately. Also, there may be a risk of acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain or vomiting occur after taking the medication, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic complication, particularly at risk in patients with impaired kidney function or liver dysfunction. Thus, patients with moderate or worse kidney impairment, severe infections or dehydration, and heart failure should not use this drug. This drug is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, or in children under 18 years of age. During treatment, regular meals and exercise are important, and attention should be paid to symptoms of hypoglycemia. In particular, when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood glucose should be monitored frequently, and drug dosage adjustments may be necessary. Additionally, alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this drug, and prior to undergoing surgery or imaging tests with contrast agents, healthcare professionals should be informed to temporarily discontinue the medication. Patients should have regular kidney function tests and consult healthcare professionals immediately if any unusual symptoms occur. Finally, this drug may rarely cause side effects such as joint pain, skin rash, or muscle pain, and if these symptoms persist or worsen, patients should inform their healthcare provider.
