Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication helps control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes by combining sitagliptin and metformin. When used alongside dietary and exercise therapies, it aids in effectively managing blood sugar levels, contributing to the prevention of diabetes complications and overall health improvement. Therefore, it is used to enhance blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes patients.
This medication should be taken once daily at dinner time to reduce gastrointestinal side effects from metformin, and the dosage should be gradually increased. To maintain its sustained-release properties, this medication should be swallowed whole without splitting, crushing, or chewing. 1. For patients not currently being treated with metformin: The initial dose is a total daily amount of 100 mg sitagliptin and 1000 mg metformin.
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin hydrochloride and is used for diabetes treatment. First, the sitagliptin component can rarely cause serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, and skin exfoliative disease, so if these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention. Also, acute pancreatitis can occur, so it is important to inform medical personnel immediately if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort occurs. The metformin hydrochloride component can cause a rare but fatal side effect known as lactic acidosis, so patients with impaired kidney function, liver disease, severe infections, or dehydration should not take this medication. In particular, it should not be administered to patients with moderate or severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, sepsis, or pregnant or nursing women. During treatment with this medication, renal function should be regularly monitored, and should renal function deteriorate rapidly, the medication should be temporarily discontinued. Additionally, hypoglycemia may occur due to irregular meals, excessive exercise, or interactions with other medications, so caution is advised. This medication contains the dye Red No. 40, so it should be used cautiously in individuals with allergies to this component. Before undergoing surgery or imaging tests with contrast agents, this medication should be stopped for a period of time, and after kidney function is confirmed to be normal following surgery, it can be resumed. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment with this medication, as especially excessive acute or chronic alcohol intake can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Lastly, this medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age or pregnant women, and caution is needed for the elderly as they may have reduced kidney function. If any unusual symptoms or suspected side effects occur during treatment, consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately.
