Improves decreased motivation and dementia syndrome; relieves atherosclerotic headaches in older adults; adjunctive treatment for hypertension
This medication helps improve apathy resulting from chronic cerebral circulatory disorders due to sequelae of cerebral infarction. It is also used to relieve atherosclerotic headaches that frequently occur in the elderly. It can be used as an adjunct in the treatment of hypertension and is effective in treating various symptoms of dementia, such as memory impairment, concentration difficulties, decreased judgment, and lack of initiative caused by primary degenerative vascular dementia and complex dementia. Thus, it is a widely used medication for various neuro-related symptoms and vascular issues, assisting in symptom improvement.
* 5 mg, 10 mg Adults: Administer 5 ∼ 10 mg of nicergoline orally 3 times daily before meals. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms. * 30 mg Adults: Administer 30 mg of nicergoline orally once daily before a meal. If the desired effect is not achieved at this dose, it may be increased to 60 mg. The dose may be reduced after symptoms improve. In patients with impaired renal function (serum creatinine >175 µmol/L) (2 mg/dL), administer a reduced dose.

For example, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medication or ergot alkaloids, patients with acute myocardial infarction, acute bleeding patients, patients taking sympathomimetic agents, patients with very low heart rates, patients who have not completed hemostasis after intracranial bleeding, and patients with orthostatic dysregulation. Additionally, it should be used cautiously in patients with mild bradycardia or impaired kidney function. When taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or dry mouth may rarely occur. There is also the possibility of elevated liver enzyme levels due to liver function abnormalities, so caution is warranted. Rarely, cardiovascular abnormalities such as dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, blood pressure changes, and increased serum uric acid levels may occur. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as drowsiness, lethargy, headaches, tinnitus, fatigue, insomnia may occur. Allergic reactions such as rash, urticaria, itching, facial flushing, or warmth have also been reported rarely. In studies of long-term use of this medication, cases of nightmares, mood changes, and dyspepsia have been reported rarely. Since it has blood pressure-lowering effects, blood pressure may drop too low when taken with other antihypertensive medications, so blood pressure should be monitored frequently. It may also affect uric acid metabolism, so patients with a history of gout should take caution. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery after taking this medication. This medication is metabolized in the liver, so there may be interactions with other drugs. It can particularly enhance the effects of antihypertensive drugs, so inform healthcare professionals of any concurrent medications. During pregnancy, the safety of this medication is not assured; therefore, pregnant women or women of childbearing potential should use it cautiously under medical supervision. During breastfeeding, this medication may be excreted in breast milk, so it should be avoided if possible or breastfeeding should be discontinued. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily functions, so dose adjustments may be necessary. The safety in pediatric patients has not been adequately established, so caution should be exercised in its use. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may temporarily decrease, so blood pressure changes should be monitored and necessary actions taken.
