Blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes and reduction of the risk of chronic heart failure (cardiovascular disease), inhibition of progression of chronic kidney disease
This medicine is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it is used together with other treatments in patients with chronic heart failure to reduce the risk of death and hospitalization due to cardiovascular diseases. It is also used in patients with chronic kidney disease to reduce the worsening of kidney function and the risk of cardiovascular diseases. This medicine helps not only in managing blood sugar but also in lowering the risk of complications related to cardiovascular and kidney health. Therefore, it is effectively used for the management of type 2 diabetes, chronic heart failure, and chronic kidney disease.
This medicine can be taken orally once a day at any time of the day, regardless of meals. The tablets must be swallowed whole.
The efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medicine should not be used in patients who are allergic to its active ingredients or additives. It should also not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. This medicine contains lactose, so it should not be used in patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, lactose deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients on dialysis should not take this medicine. Patients with decreased fluid volume or kidney function impairment must use this medicine with caution, ensuring fluid status and kidney function are assessed prior to use. This medicine can lower blood pressure, so elderly patients with symptomatic hypotension or those taking diuretics, as well as patients with impaired kidney function, should be cautious. For patients with diabetes who have moderately or severely impaired kidney function, blood sugar control may be less effective. Taking this medicine may cause adverse reactions such as genital infections, urinary tract infections, decreased fluid volume, hypoglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, so it is important to monitor symptoms carefully. Especially in women, genital infections occur more frequently, and patients with a history of infections are at higher risk of recurrence. Even if blood sugar levels are low, ketoacidosis can occur, so if symptoms such as dehydration, vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy, or difficulty breathing occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. There is an increased risk of hypoglycemia when this medicine is used in combination with blood sugar-lowering agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. Elderly patients, those with liver disease, and patients with low blood pressure should take extra caution when using this medicine, and fluid status should be monitored frequently. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medicine, and it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. The safety and efficacy of this medicine in pediatric patients have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it. In cases of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, and appropriate treatment should be administered according to symptoms, with observation and treatment in medical facilities as necessary. During the use of this medicine, caution should be taken while driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia. Finally, this medicine should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container to maintain quality.
