Precautions

This medication is used to help control blood sugar in treating diabetes. It can rarely cause a dangerous condition called lactic acidosis, so patients with poor kidney function or severe infections, dehydration, etc. should not use it. Moreover, caution is needed when used in conjunction with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, as this may lead to symptoms of hypoglycemia. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, those scheduled for acute illness or surgery, hepatically impaired patients, pregnant women, or nursing mothers should not use this medication. This medication should be carefully administered to patients with reduced fluid volume or risk of hypotension, and fluid status and kidney function must be evaluated prior to administration. During use, symptoms of hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis, signs of infection, etc. should be closely observed, and if abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is required. This medication may increase the risk of genital and urinary infections, necessitating appropriate treatment if infection symptoms appear. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so regular blood tests may be needed for long-term use. Alcohol may increase the risk of side effects from this medication; therefore, excessive drinking should be avoided during administration. This medication may affect certain test results, and when assessing blood sugar control, other tests should be used. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should have dosage adjustments and kidney function monitoring prioritized. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should not use this medication and should discontinue use immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. In case of overdose, immediate medical attention is required, and dialysis may be beneficial in cases of poor kidney function. This medication does not exert significant effects on driving or operating machinery; however, caution is advised as dizziness and other symptoms may occur. Store out of reach of children and keep in the original container to prevent safety accidents and degradation of quality.
