How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. The maximum dosage is 10 mg of dapagliflozin/2000 mg of sustained-release metformin once daily, taken as 2 tablets of 5 mg/1000 mg. The recommended starting dose when used as initial therapy is 1 tablet of either 5 mg/500 mg or 10 mg/500 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication is used for diabetes treatment and works by combining two ingredients to help control blood sugar. Care should be taken as a rare side effect called severe lactic acidosis may occur while taking this medication. Lactic acidosis can lead to dangerous conditions due to the excessive buildup of lactate in the body, which may pose a life-threatening risk. Moreover, when taken in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, hypoglycemia may occur, thus blood sugar levels must be carefully monitored. Particularly, this medication should not be used in patients with significantly impaired kidney function, dehydration, serious infections, cardiovascular diseases, type 1 diabetes, pregnant women, or nursing mothers. When administered to patients with impaired kidney function or elderly individuals, regular checks on kidney function and fluid status are needed, and it should be used with caution. Discontinuation of this medication is necessary if kidney function falls below certain standards. While taking this medication, urinary and genital infections may occur, so immediate consultation with a physician is required if any infection symptoms appear. This medication can lower Vitamin B12 levels, therefore it is advisable to monitor Vitamin B12 status through blood tests during long-term use. Temporary discontinuation of this medication is necessary before surgical procedures or tests that use iodine contrast, as per medical staff's instructions. Excessive alcohol intake can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advisable to avoid it. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, dosage adjustments may be required when taken concurrently with insulin or hypoglycemic agents. This medication should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and if pregnancy is confirmed, intake should be immediately discontinued. As symptoms like dizziness may occur, caution is required when driving or operating machinery. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container to avoid misuse or quality degradation.
