How to take

Adult dose

This medication is typically taken twice daily with food and is gradually increased in dosage to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dosage is determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen. 1. Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Firstly, serious allergic reactions may occur during the use of this medication. For example, anaphylaxis, angioedema, or severe skin reactions may occur, so if any of these symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Additionally, acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, can rarely occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, medical personnel should be informed immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, especially in cases of moderate to severe renal impairment or acute conditions such as dehydration, severe infections, or heart failure. Furthermore, the administration of this medication should be temporarily halted before and after undergoing examinations with contrast agents, and it can only be resumed after confirming that kidney function is normal. It is recommended not to use this medication in pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, breastfeeding mothers, or children under 18 years of age. Attention should be paid to symptoms of hypoglycemia during the use of this medication. In particular, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, so blood sugar levels should be checked frequently, and immediate action should be taken if symptoms appear. Lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic disorder, may occur, so if symptoms such as weakness, muscle pain, breathing difficulties, or abdominal pain occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should also be avoided in patients with liver dysfunction or excessive alcohol consumption, and should be temporarily discontinued before and after surgery. During the use of this medication, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted, and monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is also recommended. Finally, there may be other medications that interact with this medication, so if other drugs are being taken, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist, especially when used in combination with medications that may affect kidney function. Adhering to these precautions can enhance treatment efficacy and reduce side effects.
