Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes who are taking sitagliptin and metformin together. When taken alongside controlled diet and exercise therapy, effective management of blood glucose can be achieved. By improving blood glucose levels, it also contributes to the prevention of complications, thus aiding in consistent treatment.
This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to minimize gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. 1. For patients not currently being treated with metformin: Take this medication 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice daily, and may increase to 50/1000 mg, 1 tablet twice daily. 2. For patients being treated with metformin:
This medication consists of sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. While taking this medication, serious allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and inform your doctor. There have been reports of severe adverse effects, such as pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, seek medical attention promptly. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or in situations where acute kidney failure is at risk should not take this medication, and it must be discontinued especially before and after examinations using iodinated contrast agents. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not use this medication. This medication can induce hypoglycemia, so caution is needed if meals are skipped or irregular, during intense exercise, or when taken with other antidiabetic medications. During treatment, regular checks of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted, and since vitamin B12 levels may decrease, supplementation may be required if necessary. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects associated with this medication, therefore, it is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol during treatment. Prior to and after surgery, this medication should be discontinued for a certain period and should only be resumed after kidney function has returned to normal. If sudden joint pain, skin rash, or blisters occur while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken, especially when co-administered with drugs that may affect kidney function. Elderly patients should be cautious due to the common decline in kidney function; dose adjustment and regular kidney function monitoring are necessary. In case of overdose, promptly visit a medical institution for appropriate treatment, and this medication can be partially removed through hemodialysis.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
