Precautions

This medicine contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. First, sitagliptin can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as rash or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, there have been reports of serious side effects involving pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If you experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite, inform your healthcare provider immediately. The metformin component can rarely induce a dangerous state known as lactic acidosis, which is due to the accumulation of acidic substances in the body, exhibiting symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain. This medicine should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal dysfunction, severe infections, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. It must also be discontinued before and after examinations using iodinated contrast agents. Its safety in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and in patients under 18 years old, has not been established, and it is advisable not to use this medication in these populations. While taking this medicine, it is essential to maintain a regular diet and adequate exercise, as well as to regularly check blood sugar levels and kidney function. Also, hypoglycemia may occur, and therefore you should take care to quickly address it by consuming sugar. Be cautious, as there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia when used in conjunction with other hypoglycemic agents or alcohol. In situations such as surgery or severe infections, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and should be restarted only after the condition stabilizes. If severe joint pain, skin rash, or blistering disease occurs during treatment, inform your doctor immediately and seek treatment. Finally, there may be interactions with other medications being taken along with this medicine, so it is important to inform your healthcare provider of any other drugs you are currently using.
