This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes in conjunction with dietary and exercise regimens. The combination of sitagliptin and metformin effectively lowers blood sugar and aids in diabetes management.

How to take

This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dose should be gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. 1. For patients not currently receiving metformin: Take this medication 50/500 mg twice daily, 1 tablet at a time, and it can be increased to 50/1000 mg twice daily, 1 tablet at a time. 2. For patients receiving metformin:

Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which are used for diabetes treatment. First, during the use of this medication, serious allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. This medication carries a risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, notify healthcare personnel immediately. Patients with impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, or acute myocardial infarction should not use this medication, and especially if kidney function is reduced, regular kidney function tests should be conducted. If undergoing surgery or radiological contrast testing, the use of this medication should be temporarily suspended and resumed only after oral intake returns to normal post-surgery and kidney function is restored. It is safer for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, not to take this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so one should eat regularly and exercise caution during strenuous activities. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, and special care is necessary for patients with liver or kidney disease. This medication may decrease vitamin B12 levels; thus, it is advisable to check vitamin B12 levels with blood tests during prolonged use. Finally, if any unusual symptoms or discomfort are experienced while taking this medication, it is important to consult with healthcare personnel immediately to receive appropriate care.

Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), anaphylaxis, cutaneous vasculitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, acute pancreatitis (including hemorrhagic or necrotizing), acute renal failure, dyspnea, severe and disabling joint pain, blistering dermatitis, rhabdomyolysis, elevated liver enzymes, liver abnormalities (presumed jaundice), hypoglycemia, severe hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis, acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, ketosis, acute myocardial infarction, cardiovascular issues
