Before and after tests involving iodine-based contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and it should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function. It is advisable for pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers to avoid taking this medication. When taking this medication, it is essential to be cautious of signs of hypoglycemia, particularly if taken concurrently with insulin or sulfonylureas, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, making regular blood sugar level checks important. This medication should also be avoided in patients with impaired liver function, and regular liver and kidney function tests are recommended. Lactic acidosis, a rare but life-threatening side effect, can occur; therefore, if symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain arise, contact a healthcare provider immediately. Furthermore, this medication should be temporarily discontinued if serious infections, dehydration, congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or other severe diseases occur, and it is necessary to interrupt its use for a certain period before and after surgery.
