Precautions

This medication contains two components, sitagliptin and metformin. Firstly, sitagliptin can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, which may appear within the first 3 months of medication use, so caution is needed. Also, it may lead to acute pancreatitis, causing inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain or vomiting occur, consult a doctor immediately. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic complication, and may be risky for patients with poor kidney function or liver dysfunction. Therefore, regular kidney and liver function tests should be performed, and if the physical condition changes drastically, such as during dehydration, severe infections, or before and after surgery, the use of this medication should be temporarily suspended. This medication should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, severe infections, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Moreover, irregular eating, excessive exercise, or taking other medications can increase the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, requiring caution. During the use of this medication, side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and upper respiratory infections may occur, and the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when combined with other blood sugar-lowering agents. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so care should be taken not to overindulge while taking this medication. This medication should be used cautiously in children and the elderly, particularly as kidney function decline is common in the elderly, requiring dosage adjustments and regular monitoring. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for proper treatment, as dialysis may remove the drug from circulation. Finally, if new symptoms or unusual reactions occur during the use of this medication, it is important to consult with healthcare professionals immediately.
