This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, with a gradual increase in dosage to minimize gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. 1. For patients currently not treated with metformin: The initial dose is one tablet (50/500 mg) twice daily, and for dose escalation, one tablet (50/1000 mg) twice daily. 2. For patients currently being treated with metformin:
This medicine is used in the treatment of diabetes and requires careful attention when taken. First, this medication may cause allergic reactions; if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, pancreatitis or inflammation of the pancreas may occur; if symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea arise, visit a hospital immediately. One of the ingredients in this medication may pose risks to patients with reduced kidney function, so it should not be taken if kidney function is impaired. Patients experiencing acute issues with heart or kidney, such as acute heart failure, myocardial infarction, or severe infections, should also refrain from using this medication. Especially, it is necessary to temporarily discontinue this drug before and after tests using contrast agents and resume only after normal kidney function is confirmed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women should not take this medication. This medicine can cause hypoglycemia, so caution is particularly needed if meals are missed, eaten irregularly, excessive exercise is done, or if taken with other blood glucose-lowering agents. During treatment, regular monitoring of blood glucose, kidney function, liver function, and blood tests is recommended, along with periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this drug, so abstinence from alcohol during treatment is advised. If surgery is required, discontinue the medication 48 hours prior to surgery and only resume it after normal kidney function is recovered following the operation. If severe joint pain, skin rashes, or blisters develop while taking this medication, notify your doctor immediately and seek treatment. In case of overdose, seek emergency treatment immediately, and if necessary, blood dialysis may be performed to remove the medication. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, and elderly patients may need dosage adjustment and close monitoring due to decreased kidney function. It is important to adhere to these precautions and consult medical personnel immediately if any abnormal symptoms arise.
