Improvement of blood sugar control in Type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes by taking sitagliptin and metformin together. It helps effectively manage blood sugar levels when combined with dietary and exercise therapy. This treatment is suitable for patients who struggle with blood sugar regulation and significantly aids in diabetes management. When used safely according to the patient's health status, it contributes to improving blood sugar control.
This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, with dosage gradually increasing to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. The initial dosage is determined according to the patient’s current treatment regimen. 1. For patients not currently treated with metformin: Take one tablet of this medication 50/500 mg twice daily, and it can be increased to one tablet of 50/1000 mg twice daily.
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, which are both anti-diabetic agents. First, this medication may cause serious allergic reactions in some patients; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing appear within three months of administration, usage should be stopped immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. Moreover, this medication may induce pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea arise, immediate medical attention is necessary. The metformin component can cause a rare but life-threatening condition known as lactic acidosis, thus this medication should be discontinued in cases of severe dehydration, infections, heart problems, etc. This medication should not be administered to patients with significantly diminished kidney function, acute heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, severe infections, or dehydration. Additionally, this medication must be discontinued before examinations using iodine contrast agents, and after the kidney function is confirmed normal post-examination, it can be resumed. This medication is not to be used by pregnant or potentially pregnant women, or nursing mothers. While taking this medication, regular checks of kidney function and blood tests are advisable, and periodic monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is also recommended. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, it is essential to carefully monitor blood sugar changes, especially when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is best to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. Maintaining regular meals and appropriate exercise while on this medication is important, and if sudden symptoms or adverse reactions occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary.
