Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise regimens to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin and metformin work together to effectively manage blood sugar levels, helping to maintain stable blood sugar levels and contribute to the prevention of complications. This medication aids in the treatment of diabetes as a complement to dietary measures and exercise.
This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, with gradual dose escalation to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. 1. For patients currently not being treated with metformin: Take this medication 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice daily, with the option to increase to 50/1000 mg, 1 tablet twice daily if needed. 2. For patients on metformin treatment:
This medication is a diabetes treatment containing sitagliptin and metformin hydrochloride. First, severe allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rashes, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention. Second, symptoms of acute pancreatitis may arise, so inform your doctor immediately if you experience severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite. Third, due to the metformin component, rare but potentially fatal lactic acidosis may occur, necessitating immediate discontinuation and medical consultation if sudden muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain develops. Fourth, patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction should not use this medication. Fifth, when taking contrast agents for radiological examinations, this medication should be suspended for a period before and after the test, and it should be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. Sixth, pregnant women, those who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Seventh, irregular eating, excessive exercise, and interactions with other medications may cause hypoglycemia, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, which heightens the risk of low blood sugar. Eighth, patients should have regular kidney function and blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels should be monitored periodically. Ninth, excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk of lactic acidosis, so alcohol should be avoided. Lastly, patients who are about to undergo surgery should stop taking this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and can resume only after normal recovery of diet and hydration and confirmation of normal kidney function.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container that prevents air from entering, ideally between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage helps maintain the medication's efficacy and prevent degradation.
