Precautions

This medication helps control blood sugar levels. However, it can rarely cause a dangerous condition called lactic acidosis, so caution is required. When taken in conjunction with other diabetes medications, hypoglycemia may occur, so care should be taken. Patients with impaired kidney function, dehydration, serious infections, heart disease, or other specific health conditions should not take this medication. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid using this medication. Patients with fluid deficiency or weakened kidney function should consult a doctor before taking this medication and should periodically check blood pressure and kidney function during treatment. When taken with insulin or insulin-secretagogues, dosage adjustments may be necessary to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication may increase the risk of genital and urinary infections, so if symptoms of infection occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is advised. During treatment, vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so it is recommended to have regular blood tests if necessary. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so excessive alcohol should be avoided during treatment with this medication. When undergoing certain medical procedures such as surgery or radiological examinations, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and treatment should resume only after confirming normal kidney function. Elderly patients commonly experience decreased kidney function, so the dosage of this medication should be carefully adjusted, and kidney function should be monitored regularly. In case of overdose, immediate contact with a medical institution for appropriate treatment is required, and this medication can be removed through dialysis. This medication has not established safety and efficacy in children, so it should not be used by them. Lastly, dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery during the use of this medication, so caution is advised.
