Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients who have had an allergic reaction to this drug or its components. Caution should be exercised when administering it to patients taking other serotonergic drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Serious allergic reactions such as shock or anaphylaxis may rarely occur during use of this drug, and if any unusual symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be administered. Additionally, there is a possibility of seizures resembling epilepsy, so caution is needed. Various side effects such as headaches, diarrhea, constipation, and liver function abnormalities have been reported, and if symptoms are severe or suspicious, medical consultation should be sought. This drug is recommended only for patients given anticancer agents that cause strong nausea and vomiting. When used in conjunction with other serotonergic drugs, serotonin syndrome may occur; therefore, the patient's condition should be closely monitored. Care should be taken when taken with drugs that inhibit enzymes that break down this drug in the liver as it may increase blood levels, raising the risk of side effects. Pregnant women or women of childbearing potential should be administered this drug only when the benefits of treatment are considered greater than the risks. Breastfeeding women should refrain from nursing during administration as this drug may be secreted in breast milk. Safety in children has not been sufficiently established, so caution is needed when administering it to them. Elderly persons may have decreased physiological functions, so administration should be done carefully while closely monitoring their condition and taking immediate action in case of side effects. This drug may chemically react when mixed with specific injection solutions, so it should not be mixed, except in some extraordinary cases. Animal studies have indicated that this drug may affect fetal growth or development, so special caution is needed when used during pregnancy.
