View approved original text

This medication is used to control serum phosphorus levels in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing dialysis. It is also effective in controlling serum phosphorus levels in chronic kidney disease patients not undergoing dialysis with serum phosphorus concentrations above 5.5 mg/dL. This helps maintain serum phosphorus levels within a normal range, aiding renal function. Consequently, it is used to facilitate health management for patients with chronic kidney disease.

It should not be administered to patients with hypophosphatemia or bowel obstruction as it poses a risk of gastrointestinal perforation. Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with bowel stricture or constipation, as it may cause obstruction or perforation. Gastrointestinal side effects such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, and constipation may occur during treatment, and in severe cases, treatment may need to be halted. Patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis should be aware of the risk of peritonitis and should notify healthcare professionals immediately if symptoms occur to receive appropriate treatment. There have been no special reports of overdose, but it is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage. There are no studies on the impact of this medication on driving or the operation of machinery, so caution is advised. If severe constipation, persistent abdominal pain, vomiting, or any unusual symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
