Precautions

This medication is a drug that helps regulate blood sugar and is used for the treatment of diabetes. First, this drug can rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis can be dangerous because it causes excessive buildup of lactic acid in the body, so if symptoms occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. Additionally, when taken with other diabetes medications, hypoglycemia may occur, so blood sugar levels should be monitored carefully. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, weak cardiac function, or impaired liver function should not take this medication for safety reasons. In particular, in cases of renal impairment, the medication may accumulate in the body and pose risks, so regular kidney function tests are necessary. Before and after tests using iodine contrast agents, medication should be paused and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. Women who are pregnant or potentially pregnant should not take this medication, and it is advisable to avoid it while breastfeeding. During the course of taking this medication, alcohol consumption should be avoided, and the medication should be temporarily discontinued if conditions worsen, such as acute infections, dehydration, or severe trauma. Additionally, if taken with drugs that pose a risk of hypoglycemia, one should be well-versed in the symptoms and management of hypoglycemia. This medication rarely can cause side effects such as liver dysfunction, pancreatitis, skin rash, or pneumonia, so if abnormal symptoms appear, you should inform your doctor immediately. Elderly patients often experience decreased kidney function and may require dosage adjustments and regular monitoring. In the event of overdose, immediate treatment is necessary, and the medication can be removed by hemodialysis. This medication has not been verified for safety and efficacy in children and should not be used.
