Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and helps manage blood sugar levels. However, it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function, acute infections, or severe heart diseases. Additionally, it is safer not to administer it to pregnant or breastfeeding women. This medication can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or weakness occur, consult a doctor immediately. When used in combination with insulin or other diabetes medications, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is necessary. Patients with reduced fluid volume or low blood pressure, especially the elderly or those using diuretics, must ensure kidney function and fluid status are confirmed before starting this medication. Regular monitoring for symptoms of low blood pressure or changes in kidney function is needed during use. This medication may increase the risk of genital and urinary infections, requiring prompt treatment if infection symptoms occur. Also, vitamin B12 deficiency may develop, so it is advisable to check vitamin B12 levels during long-term use. Excessive alcohol should be avoided, and it is recommended to discontinue the medication for a certain period before surgery or X-ray examinations. Weight loss and increased urine output may occur during the use of this medication, so these should be monitored. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
