How to take

Adult dose

The dosage of this medication will be determined considering each patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance, without exceeding the maximum recommended daily doses of sitagliptin 100 mg and metformin 2000 mg. This medication should be taken once a day with the evening meal to reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions caused by metformin, and dosage should be gradually increased. To maintain the sustained-release properties, this medication should be swallowed whole and not divided, crushed, or chewed.

Precautions

This medication contains two components that assist in controlling blood sugar. Firstly, sitagliptin included in this medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, which may include serious symptoms such as skin rashes, swelling of the lips or tongue. Additionally, sitagliptin can cause acute pancreatitis, which leads to inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. Secondly, the metformin component can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic complication where lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body, which can be fatal. This medication should be avoided by patients with impaired kidney function, those who have heart or liver issues, or those in a state of dehydration, severe infections, or acute myocardial infarction. It is also safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid taking this medication. Irregular eating patterns, excessive exercise, or concurrent use with other medications may increase the risk of hypoglycemia or other side effects, necessitating caution. While taking this medication, it is necessary to regularly check kidney function and blood tests to confirm safety, and monitoring vitamin B12 levels periodically is advisable. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it should be avoided while on this medication. This medication should be discontinued for a certain period before and after surgery, and if any sudden abdominal pain, breathing difficulties, severe fatigue, or changes in consciousness occurs, notify healthcare personnel immediately. Some patients may experience side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, headache, upper respiratory infections, and when used with other hypoglycemic agents, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is necessary. Additionally, this medication can interact with certain drugs, so if there are other medications being taken, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist. Lastly, safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 10 years old or adolescents under 18 years old, and it is not recommended for them.
