This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is suitable for patients who are also on dietary and exercise therapy, and effectively improves blood sugar levels through the combination of sitagliptin and metformin. This facilitates better blood sugar management and helps prevent complications. Therefore, this medication plays an important role in the treatment of diabetes.
The 100/1000 mg extended-release tablets are taken once daily, with one tablet per dose. Patients taking the 50/500 mg extended-release tablets or the 50/1000 mg extended-release tablets should take two tablets together once a day. 1. Patients not currently treated with metformin: The initial dosage is a total daily dose of sitagliptin 100 mg and metformin 1000 mg. If adequate blood sugar control is difficult to achieve
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. Before taking this medication, it is essential to check for any allergic reactions. If symptoms of hypersensitivity such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or lips occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. If symptoms of pancreatitis, such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, discontinue the medication and notify healthcare professionals immediately. Patients with severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, severe infections, or dehydration should not use this medication. Before and after tests using iodine contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued due to the risk of renal function deterioration and lactic acidosis, and it may only be resumed once renal function has been confirmed to be normal. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or who are breastfeeding, should not take this medication. For elderly patients, regular monitoring of renal function is recommended, and starting with the minimum dose is advised. Though rare, lactic acidosis can occur as a serious side effect; thus, if symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or abnormal changes in consciousness occur, inform healthcare professionals immediately. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, as alcohol intake may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Additionally, symptoms of hypoglycemia such as dizziness, tremors, and cold sweats may occur. Therefore, careful monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential, especially when taken with other hypoglycemic agents. If surgery is planned, the medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to surgery and can be resumed after oral intake has normalized and renal function has recovered. This medication can cause vitamin B12 deficiency; hence, regular blood tests to monitor vitamin B12 levels are necessary for long-term use. Regular monitoring of renal function and hematological tests should be conducted while taking this medication, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare providers immediately. Finally, this medication is not recommended for children (under 18 years old) as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
