Improvement in blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes
This medication works by combining sitagliptin and metformin to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly suitable for those who are also following a diet and exercise regimen, and is used to effectively manage blood sugar to improve symptoms of diabetes.
This medication is taken once daily with meals, preferably during the evening, and the dosage is gradually increased. The 100/1000 mg sustained-release tablet is taken once daily as 1 tablet. The 50/500 mg sustained-release tablet or the 50/1000 mg sustained-release tablet is taken once daily as 2 tablets simultaneously. 1. For patients currently not treated with metformin: The initial dosage consists of a total daily amount of sitagliptin 100 mg and metformin.
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. First, regarding sitagliptin, it can cause serious allergic reactions in some patients, such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, and severe rashes or exfoliative skin diseases. If such symptoms appear within the first three months after taking the medication, you should consult your healthcare provider immediately. Moreover, pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, may occur; thus, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort arise, you must stop taking the medication and visit a hospital immediately. The metformin component may lead to a rare but severe metabolic complication called lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening, requiring great caution. Lactic acidosis may begin with unspecific symptoms like muscle pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, or abdominal pain; if these occur, report to a doctor immediately and discontinue the use of the medication. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or those with acute illnesses affecting the kidneys, such as severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction, should not use this medication. Additionally, this medication should be temporarily stopped before and after examinations using radiographic contrast agents, and should be resumed only after kidney function has returned to normal. Use is not recommended in pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, and pediatric patients under 18 years of age. During treatment, hypoglycemia may occur, particularly when taken alongside other glucose-lowering agents; therefore, extra caution is advised. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include dizziness, cold sweat, and severe fatigue; if such symptoms appear, consume sugar immediately and consult healthcare providers. Additionally, this medication is not administered to patients with impaired liver function, and regular monitoring of kidney function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels is necessary. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so supplementation may be required if needed. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 48 hours before the procedure and may resume after surgery once oral intake is possible and kidney function is deemed normal. Lastly, excessive alcohol intake can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advised to avoid drinking during treatment. It is important to consult a physician immediately if any unusual symptoms develop during treatment for proper management.
