Effectiveness in controlling blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes and preventing cardiovascular events
This medication is developed to assist adult patients with type 2 diabetes in controlling their blood sugar levels in conjunction with dietary and exercise regimens. It is particularly effective for patients whose blood sugar levels are inadequately controlled, and caution should be observed according to expert guidelines in cases of confirmed cardiovascular diseases. This improves blood sugar control and aids in the overall health management of patients.
The recommended dosage for this medication is 1 tablet, twice daily. Doses should be determined within a range not exceeding 25 mg of Empagliflozin and 2000 mg of Metformin based on each patient's treatment plan, effectiveness, and tolerance. If patients are not achieving sufficient blood sugar control with Metformin alone or in combination with insulin, a dosage of 5 mg of Empagliflozin twice daily in addition to the current dosage of Metformin is recommended. Tolerance is good and additional blood sugar control may necessitate the increase to 25 mg of Empagliflozin (total daily amount).
This medication is used for treating diabetes and helps lower blood sugar levels. However, caution must be taken as rare side effects such as severe lactic acidosis may occur when taking this medication. Lactic acidosis is a condition where lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body and can be very dangerous. Additionally, if taken with insulin or other diabetes medications, hypoglycemia may occur, so regular blood sugar monitoring is essential. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute renal issues, severe infections, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction should not take this medication. Before and after examinations using iodine contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. It is also safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this medication. This medication may cause fluid loss, so caution is necessary in cases of dehydration, vomiting, or diarrhea, especially in elderly patients or those with cardiovascular diseases. During treatment, urinary or genital infections may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be promptly discussed with a healthcare provider. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so regular blood tests are recommended for long-term users. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects, so excessive drinking should be avoided while on this medication. If scheduled for surgery or experiencing serious illness, one should inform healthcare providers and temporarily discontinue this medication. Regular checks on blood sugar control status should be carried out while taking this medication, and immediate action should be taken in case of hypoglycemic symptoms. Lastly, this medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years old, and elderly patients should regularly check kidney function to maintain appropriate dosage levels.
