Effect on blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes by combining empagliflozin and metformin. It effectively manages blood sugar in conjunction with diet and exercise. It can also be administered to type 2 diabetes patients with cardiovascular disease whose blood glucose is not adequately controlled; however, caution is required regarding the occurrence of cardiovascular events in this case. Care should be taken to manage the use of this medication safely according to professional guidelines. Therefore, it is used to assist in regulating blood glucose in type 2 diabetes patients and enhance therapeutic effectiveness.
The recommended dosage of this medication is 1 tablet, twice daily. The dosage is determined based on the patient's condition, ensuring that it does not exceed 25 mg of Empagliflozin and 2000 mg of Metformin. In cases where blood glucose control is insufficient, it is recommended to administer 5 mg of Empagliflozin twice daily along with the existing Metformin dosage, and if well tolerated, it can be increased to between 10 mg and 25 mg of Empagliflozin. This medication is indicated for patients with inadequate glucose control during treatment.
This medication is used to help control blood glucose and is employed in diabetes treatment. This drug can cause a rare side effect called severe lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with poor kidney function or in serious conditions such as severe infections, dehydration, or heart failure. Care should be taken when using this drug with insulin or other blood glucose-lowering agents due to the risk of hypoglycemia. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute illnesses, or those scheduled for surgery should temporarily discontinue this medication and may resume after renal function recovers to normal. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised not to take this medication. During treatment, urinary or genital infections may occur, so any signs of infection should be immediately reported to healthcare professionals. Additionally, in situations with a risk of fluid loss or dehydration, fluid status should be closely monitored, and medication should be discontinued if necessary. As vitamin B12 levels may decrease, it is advisable to regularly check vitamin B12 concentrations during prolonged use. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so excessive drinking should be avoided during treatment. In case of overdose, serious side effects may occur, so it is essential to adhere to the prescribed dose, and if abnormal symptoms arise, seek immediate medical attention. This medication is not recommended for children, and elderly patients should regularly check renal function and adjust doses as needed. Finally, regular blood tests and kidney function tests are important to ensure safety during the use of this medication.
