How to take

Adult dose

This medication is usually taken once daily with the evening meal, and the 20/1000 mg extended-release tablet is taken as one tablet once daily. The 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release tablet should be taken as two tablets once daily at the same time. Precautions

This medication may cause a rare side effect called severe lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function or those with heart disease. Hypoglycemia may occur if taken in conjunction with other diabetes medications, so patients should be well aware of hypoglycemic symptoms. This drug should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, heart failure, or acute kidney disease. Patients planning to undergo examinations using radiologic contrast agents should stop taking this medication 48 hours prior to the examination and resume only after normal kidney function is confirmed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised not to take this medication. Patients with impaired liver function, severe lung disease, heavy alcohol consumption, dehydration, or gastrointestinal disorders should also use this medication with caution. This drug may cause hypoglycemia, so patients taking it alongside insulin or sulfonylurea medications should regularly check their blood glucose levels and be attentive to symptoms. If symptoms of acute pancreatitis such as severe abdominal pain or vomiting occur, consult a doctor immediately. Should symptoms of intestinal obstruction arise, discontinue use and seek medical attention. This medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, necessitating regular blood tests, and if symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency appear, appropriate measures should be taken. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, so renal function should be tested regularly and dose adjustments may be necessary. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so drinking should be avoided while taking this medication. In situations such as surgery, severe infections, or trauma, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after the condition improves. Notify your doctor immediately if any skin blisters or abnormalities occur during the use of this medication. In case of overdose, visit a medical institution immediately for appropriate treatment, and blood dialysis may be performed if necessary. Keep out of reach of children, and do not transfer to another container.
