Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes to improve blood sugar control. It is primarily used for individuals who are also following dietary and exercise therapy, and it effectively manages blood sugar levels by the combined action of teneligliptin and metformin. This helps stabilize blood sugar levels and contributes to the prevention of complications. Therefore, this medication is used as an adjunct to enhance blood sugar control.
Typically, this medication is administered once a day with the evening meal, adjusting the dose gradually to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. The 20/1000 mg extended-release tablet should be taken once daily, 1 tablet at a time. Patients taking the 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release tablets should take 2 tablets simultaneously once daily. For patients not achieving sufficient blood sugar control with metformin alone, the initial dosage of this medication should provide 20 mg of teneligliptin once daily along with their existing metformin dose. For patients switching from combination therapy with teneligliptin and metformin to this medication, the dosage should begin with the existing dosage of both teneligliptin and metformin. When switching from immediate-release metformin to an extended-release formulation, blood sugar control must be closely monitored and dosage adjustments made appropriately. When used in combination with sulfonylureas, it may be necessary to consider reducing the dose of the sulfonylurea to decrease the risk of hypoglycemia. The maximum recommended dose per day is 20 mg of teneligliptin and 2000 mg of extended-release metformin. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been specifically evaluated in patients transitioning from other hypoglycemic agents. Any changes in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes should be made under careful monitoring as they may provoke changes in blood sugar control. To maintain the extended-release characteristics, this medication should be swallowed whole without breaking, crushing, or chewing.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and helps in controlling blood sugar levels. However, there is a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis that one should be well aware of. Lactic acidosis is a condition caused by an excessive buildup of lactic acid in the body, which may present symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain; if any unusual symptoms occur, one should immediately consult a doctor. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, heart failure, or liver dysfunction. Additionally, if you are undergoing tests using radiopaque agents, this medication should be stopped 48 hours prior to the test and can be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-test. It's safest not to use this medication during pregnancy or in women who could become pregnant. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, so one should thoroughly understand the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to manage them. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests is crucial to ensure the safety of this medication while on treatment. Excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk of lactic acidosis, thus alcohol should be avoided. Some patients may experience side effects such as indigestion, constipation, or dizziness; if persistent abdominal pain or vomiting occurs, immediate medical consultation is advised. For patients undergoing surgery, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours before the procedure and can be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Elderly patients may experience decreased kidney function and thus require dose adjustment and regular monitoring. This medication has not been established for safety in children and should not be used by them. If blisters or rashes appear on the skin while taking this medication, one should inform their doctor immediately. In cases of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought and blood dialysis may be necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers.
