Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is prescribed to be used in conjunction with dietary control and exercise for patients with type 2 diabetes to help manage blood sugar levels through the combined use of teneligliptin and metformin. This improves blood sugar control, facilitating better management of health. This medication is used for effective blood sugar improvement.
This medication is generally taken once daily with dinner, and the dosage is adjusted gradually to minimize gastrointestinal side effects related to metformin. The extended-release tablet 20/1000 mg is taken once daily, with one tablet per dose. Patients taking the extended-release tablets 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. For patients whose blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled with metformin monotherapy, the initial dosage of this medication should provide teneligliptin 20 mg once daily along with the existing dose of metformin. For patients switching to this medication from a combination of teneligliptin and metformin, the dosage can begin at the existing doses of teneligliptin and metformin. When converting from immediate-release metformin to this extended-release formulation, blood sugar control should be closely monitored and dosage adjustments made appropriately. When coadministering with sulfonylureas, the dosage of sulfonylureas may be reduced to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia. The maximum recommended daily dosage is teneligliptin 20 mg and extended-release metformin 2000 mg. For patients transitioning from other hypoglycemic medications to this product, its safety and efficacy have not been specifically evaluated. Any changes in treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes, which could affect blood sugar control, should be conducted under careful monitoring. To maintain the extended-release properties, this medication should be swallowed whole and not divided, crushed, or chewed.
This medication is used for treating diabetes, specifically aiding in blood sugar control. During the use of this medication, a very rare but serious side effect known as lactic acidosis can occur. Lactic acidosis is a condition resulting from an excessive buildup of lactic acid in the body, which can lead to life-threatening situations if left untreated, so caution is needed. Additionally, when used with other diabetes medications such as insulin or sulfonylureas, there is a risk for hypoglycemia, namely symptoms of excessively low blood sugar, thus careful monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or conditions such as heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or sepsis that may affect renal function should not use this medication. Patients who are scheduled to undergo tests using iodine-based contrast agents should stop taking this medication 48 hours before the test and can resume after verifying normal renal function post-examination. This medication is also not recommended for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant and patients with severe liver or lung dysfunction. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction, as well as those with a history of cardiac issues such as prolonged QT interval, should use this medication cautiously, and should consult a doctor immediately if acute pancreatitis symptoms occur. This medication contains Yellow No. 5 dye, so patients allergic to this component need to take caution. While taking this medication, patients should be well aware of hypoglycemic symptoms and take appropriate actions, such as consuming sugar-containing foods, if they suspect hypoglycemia. This medication can affect liver and kidney functions, so it is important to undergo regular blood tests and kidney function assessments. Particularly for elderly or patients with decreased kidney function, dose adjustments and regular monitoring of kidney function are necessary, and excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided. Additionally, this medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, so regular vitamin B12 testing is recommended for long-term users. Should severe joint pain or blistering skin symptoms appear during the usage of this medication, patients must inform their doctor immediately and seek treatment. In case of overdose, immediate hospital treatment is required, and if necessary, dialysis may be performed to remove the drug. Finally, this medication is not recommended for use in children and adolescents as safety and efficacy have not been established. During the administration of this medication, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider regularly and report any unusual symptoms immediately.
