Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. The combined action of teneligliptin and metformin effectively lowers blood sugar levels, improving blood sugar management for patients. This treatment method stabilizes blood sugar levels and facilitates better diabetes management. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The usual dose of this medication is one tablet administered once daily with the evening meal, adjusting the dose gradually to reduce gastrointestinal side effects related to metformin. For this medication 20/1000 mg extended-release tablet, take one tablet daily. Patients taking this medication 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release tablets should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. For patients for whom sufficient blood sugar control is not achieved with metformin alone, the initial dose of this medication should provide teneligliptin 20 mg once daily along with the existing dose of metformin. For patients switching from combination therapy of teneligliptin and metformin to this medication, the dose can be initiated based on the existing doses of teneligliptin and metformin. When converting from regular metformin to extended-release formulations, blood sugar control should be closely monitored and appropriate dose adjustments made. When co-administering with sulfonylureas, consideration should be given to reducing the sulfonylurea dose to decrease the risk of hypoglycemia. The maximum recommended daily dose is teneligliptin 20 mg and extended-release metformin 2000 mg. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been specifically evaluated in patients switching from other blood glucose-lowering medications to this medication. Because it can cause changes in blood sugar control, any adjustments in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes should be carried out under careful monitoring. To maintain the extended-release properties, do not split, crush, chew, or break this medication; swallow whole.
This medication can very rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis is a dangerous condition caused by excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body, which can be life-threatening without appropriate treatment. When taking this medication with other diabetes medications, particularly when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas, there is a risk of severe hypoglycemia, so caution should be exercised. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or weakened cardiac function, or those in serious conditions such as acute myocardial infarction or sepsis, should not use this medication. Patients scheduled for tests using iodine contrast agents should stop taking this medication 48 hours before the test, and only resume taking it after renal function has been confirmed as normal following the test. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are advised not to use this medication, and it is also not recommended for breastfeeding mothers. During treatment, patients should be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia and take appropriate measures, such as immediately consuming food containing sugar if symptoms occur. Patients with impaired liver function, severe pulmonary disease, or excessive alcohol consumption should also avoid using this medication. If abnormal symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, severe constipation, difficulty breathing, fever, rash, etc. occur during use, consultation with healthcare professionals should be sought immediately. Elderly patients may experience decreased renal function, so regular renal function tests should be performed, and the medication dose may need to be adjusted accordingly. This medication can lower vitamin B12 levels in some patients, so it is important to check vitamin levels through regular blood tests. Additionally, it is safe to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. Patients facing surgery should temporarily discontinue this medication 48 hours prior to the procedure, and resume taking it after renal function has been confirmed as normal post-surgery. Patients taking this medication are at risk of hypoglycemia, so extra caution should be taken when driving or performing dangerous tasks at heights. Lastly, there may be other medications that can interact with this medication, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers about any other medications being taken.
