Precautions

This medication consists of two components: sitagliptin and metformin. First, during the use of this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Second, serious side effects such as acute pancreatitis, which involves inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported; therefore, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting appear at the onset of treatment or during therapy, inform medical personnel immediately. Third, metformin included in this medication can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disorder that can be life-threatening; therefore, special caution is needed if there are conditions such as severe dehydration, heart disease, liver disease, severe infections, or excessive alcohol consumption. Fourth, patients with moderate to severe impaired renal function or acute diseases affecting renal function such as acute heart failure, myocardial infarction, or sepsis should not use this medication. Fifth, during therapy with this medication, regular kidney function and blood tests should be performed to check for abnormalities, and periodic assessment of vitamin B12 levels is recommended. Sixth, irregular meals, strenuous exercise, and concomitant use of other blood glucose-lowering agents may increase the risk of hypoglycemia; therefore, symptoms should be monitored, and if necessary, consult a physician to adjust the medication dosage. Seventh, if undergoing surgery or contrast imaging tests, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. Eighth, it is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 18 years of age not to use this medication. Lastly, during the use of this medication, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided, and if any unusual symptoms occur, immediate consultation with medical personnel is required.
