Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used in the treatment of diabetes. Firstly, an allergic reaction may occur when taking this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or breathing difficulties occur, you should immediately stop taking it and consult a doctor. Additionally, serious side effects including acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported, so if symptoms of pancreatitis such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur while taking it, you should inform your healthcare provider immediately. The metformin component of this medication can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic complication; therefore, if symptoms such as severe fatigue, muscle pain, shortness of breath, or abdominal pain occur, you should immediately stop taking it and go to the hospital. Patients with impaired kidney function, severe infection, dehydration, acute heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction should not take this medication, and it should be temporarily stopped before and after surgery or before and after examinations using iodinated contrast agents. While taking this medication, you should undergo regular kidney function and blood tests, especially elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function should exercise extra caution. This medication has a risk of hypoglycemia, so care should be taken when meals are skipped, irregular eating occurs, or excessive exercise is undertaken, and dosage adjustments may be necessary when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea drugs as hypoglycemic symptoms may be more pronounced. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid drinking while on this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication, and safety has not been established for use in children under 18 years of age. If sudden skin disorders, severe joint pain, or blistering skin lesions occur during treatment with this medication, it should be reported to a physician immediately. Finally, while taking this medication, regular blood sugar tests and ongoing health management according to the doctor's instructions are essential.
