Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it should not be used by individuals who are allergic to any of its components, patients with type 1 diabetes, patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, or those undergoing dialysis. Caution should be exercised when prescribing this medication to patients with reduced fluid volume or impaired kidney function. This drug can lower blood pressure or affect kidney function, so special care is needed for the elderly or patients taking diuretics. While taking this medication, symptoms of side effects such as hypoglycemia, genital infections, urinary tract infections, reduced fluid volume, and diabetic ketoacidosis should be carefully monitored. Especially, genital infections may occur more commonly in women, and those with a history of prior infections may have a higher risk of recurrence. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when this medication is used in conjunction with drugs that can induce hypoglycemia such as insulin or sulfonylureas, and dose adjustments may be necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid using this medication, and it should be discontinued if pregnancy is confirmed. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children, so it is not used in this population. In the event of an overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment should be provided based on symptoms, and careful management of dehydration and hypotension symptoms is required. This medication does not have a significant impact on driving or machine operation, but caution is needed when taken with medications at risk for hypoglycemia. Finally, this medication should be stored in its original container, out of the reach of children, and it is safest not to change the container arbitrarily.
