Adult dose

1. Treatment of herpes zoster Adults: Administer famciclovir 750 mg orally once daily for 7 days. Take it at the same time each day. It is preferable to start treatment as soon as symptoms appear after infection. 2. Patients with renal impairment: Because the creatinine clearance of this drug is reduced in patients with renal impairment, dose adjustment should be undertaken with caution. The dosage and administration for these patients are as follows. 1) Treatment of herpes zoster Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 30～59: 250 mg per dose, twice daily 10～29: 250 mg per dose, once daily 2) If only serum creatinine is known, creatinine clearance can be calculated using the following equations. Men: {body weight (kg) × (140-age)}/ {72 × serum creatinine (mg/dL)} Women: 0.85 × the value calculated for men 3) Patients with renal impairment undergoing hemodialysis: For patients undergoing hemodialysis, administration every 48 hours is preferable, taking the interval between dialysis sessions into account. Since 4 hours of hemodialysis reduces the plasma concentration of this drug by approximately 75%, administer the full dose of this drug immediately after dialysis. 3. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with chronic compensated liver disease. There is insufficient treatment experience in patients with overt chronic decompensated liver disease; therefore, a clear recommended dose has not been established.

This medication should not be used in patients who have had an allergic reaction to this medication, any of its components, or the active ingredient, famciclovir. Patients with impaired kidney function should use this medication with caution. While taking this medication, symptoms such as headache or nausea may occur, but most are mild or moderate in severity. Additionally, neurological symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, and hallucinations have been rarely reported. Blood-related side effects such as thrombocytopenia or leukopenia may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur frequently. Since there may be abnormal liver function or rarely jaundice, it is important to periodically monitor liver health. Skin reactions such as rash, itching, urticaria, and swelling around the face or eyes may occur, with severe skin reactions also reported rarely. In patients with decreased kidney function, there may be a risk of acute renal failure, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. This medication does not completely cure genital herpes, so it is recommended to avoid sexual contact and maintain safe sex practices when symptoms are present. If symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion arise during usage, avoid driving or operating machinery. Generally, older adults do not require dosage adjustments; however, in cases of reduced kidney function, adjustment is necessary. In case of overdose, appropriate treatment should be sought, and blood dialysis may be necessary for drug removal, so immediate consultation with healthcare providers is advised. Store this medication in a dry place below 30 degrees Celsius, and keep it out of reach of children. Transferring this medication to another container may affect its quality, so it is best to keep it in its original packaging.
