Precautions

This medication helps regulate water in the body. However, in elderly patients or those with certain conditions, excessive water retention may occur, leading to hyponatremia or water intoxication; therefore, it is important to consume only enough fluids to relieve thirst. This medication should not be used by patients allergic to its components or those with heart failure, kidney failure, or who are taking diuretics. Additionally, patients with conditions such as hypertension, chronic renal disease, women who may become pregnant, children, and the elderly should use this medication with increased caution, especially those with diseases that pose risks of fluid and electrolyte imbalance. While taking this medication, serious side effects may occur, such as headaches, nausea, weight gain, and seizures; if symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Fluid intake should be restricted one hour before and eight hours after administration, and patients with reduced kidney function should restrict intake to less than 0.5 liters for 12 hours after administration. Failure to adhere to fluid restrictions may result in water retention and hyponatremia. This medication may interact with other drugs, so sodium levels should be monitored regularly, especially if taken concurrently with antidepressants, diuretics, steroids, or anti-inflammatory pain relievers. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication with caution due to the risk of uterine contractions, and it is advisable to stop breastfeeding while using it. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headaches, nausea, seizures, and loss of consciousness may occur, necessitating immediate notification to medical personnel and appropriate treatment, including restricting fluid intake or administering diuretics if necessary.
