This medication is effective for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and is also used to treat erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Additionally, it helps relieve symptoms caused by GERD and supports long-term maintenance therapy for the disease. In other words, it is used to treat inflammation and damage to the digestive tract and improve symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer orally 10/500 mg once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20/500 mg may be administered orally once daily. For gastric ulcers, it can be administered for a maximum of 8 weeks, and for duodenal ulcers for a maximum of 6 weeks. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease, administer 10/500 mg or 20/500 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms persist after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8 weeks of either 10/500 mg or 20 mg may be given.

Child dose

Safety for children has not been established.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it must not be used in patients who have had allergies or hypersensitivity reactions to this medication or its components, patients currently taking certain antiviral medications, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with liver function issues, elderly patients, patients with severe digestive tract ulcers, patients with reduced kidney function, patients with heart or lung dysfunction, and patients with electrolyte imbalances should use this medication with caution. This medication can cause various side effects, including skin rashes or itching, blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, cardiovascular problems, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological symptoms, respiratory symptoms, muscle pain, skin conditions, eye-related issues, and urinary tract abnormalities. If any unusual symptoms occur, medical personnel should be notified immediately. This medication reduces stomach acid, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, increasing the risk of diarrhea or infections. Therefore, if diarrhea persists, it is essential to consult a physician. It is not safe to use this medication in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and elderly patients should be careful as side effects may present more readily due to reduced liver function. During long-term use, regular blood tests and liver function tests are necessary, and monitoring is required for the increased risk of fractures and potential occurrence of hypomagnesemia associated with long-term use. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if any other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform medical personnel, especially when taken in combination with certain antiviral medications, anticoagulants, or methotrexate. When taking this medication, it is recommended to swallow tablets whole without chewing or crushing. Keep this medication out of the reach of children. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery, as drowsiness or dizziness may occur.

Hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash accompanied by fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, difficulty or shortness of breath, asthma attack, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme fatigue, sudden and severe headaches, lightning headache, seizures, confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis, markedly reduced urine output

Mild side effects

Rash, itching, blood disorders (anemia, leukopenia, leukocytosis, eosinophilia, neutrophilia, lymphocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, hypersensitivity vasculitis, hypopigmented anemia, aplastic anemia), elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP, γ-GTP, LDH, elevated total bilirubin), hypertension, myocardial infarction, electrocardiogram abnormalities, migraine, syncope, angina, heart blockade, tachycardia
