How to take

Adult dose

Precautions

This medication helps in controlling blood sugar. However, it can very rarely cause a severe condition known as lactic acidosis, so caution is advised. There is a risk of hypoglycemia when used with insulin or other diabetes medications, thus caution should be exercised. This medication should not be used in certain patients, such as those with an allergy to it, severely impaired renal function, dehydration, serious infections, type 1 diabetes, and pregnant or breastfeeding women. Additionally, patients scheduled for surgery or tests involving radiographic contrast agents should temporarily discontinue this medication. Careful use is required in patients with impaired renal function, elderly patients, or those with low fluid volume, and blood pressure and renal function should be regularly monitored. While taking this medication, genital infections or urinary tract infections may occur, so cleanliness should be maintained. Furthermore, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, thus requiring dosage adjustments when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medications. This medication may decrease vitamin B12 levels, so regular testing is necessary for long-term users. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. If sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain occurs while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately. This medication's safety and efficacy have not been established in children, and it should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention for proper treatment, and store this medication out of reach of children in its original container.
