How to take

Adult dose

This drug is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. Precautions

This drug is a diabetes treatment that helps lower blood sugar. When taking this medication, it should not be used if kidney function is impaired, and kidney function should be regularly monitored. It should be discontinued in conditions that may affect kidney function such as severe infections, dehydration, and acute myocardial infarction. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this drug. This medication can lead to a very rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis. If symptoms such as malaise, muscle pain, respiratory distress, or abdominal pain occur, a doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so when taken along with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia. During the use of this drug, genital infections and urinary tract infections may occur, so if any signs of infection appear, swift treatment is needed. Patients with reduced fluid volume or at risk of low blood pressure should carefully monitor blood pressure and fluid status, adjusting medication if necessary. This medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, so periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels are advised during long-term use. It should be temporarily discontinued before surgery or tests involving iodinated contrast media, resuming after confirming normal kidney function. Excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it should be avoided. Elderly patients are at higher risk of declining kidney function; therefore, dosage adjustments and regular kidney function tests should be performed. This medication has not been established as safe and effective for use in children, thus should not be used in this population. During treatment, dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container.
