This medication is used to treat hypercholesterolemia and various forms of dyslipidemia. It is particularly helpful in the treatment of patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia who are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise. It is also used in conjunction with diet or other therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, helping to delay the progression of atherosclerosis and reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and revascularization procedures in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. It is also used as an adjunct to diet in pediatric patients meeting certain criteria with familial hypercholesterolemia. Overall, this medication aids in improving blood lipid levels and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
