Blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication helps control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes by combining dapagliflozin and metformin. It is administered as an adjunct to diet and exercise regimens to effectively manage blood sugar levels. Particularly in patients who have difficulty controlling their blood sugar and have cardiovascular disease or risk factors, it is important to refer to expert guidelines regarding the cardiovascular effects of this drug. This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes patients.
This medication is typically administered once daily with dinner. The maximum dosage is dapagliflozin 10 mg / sustained-release metformin 2000 mg once daily, given as 2 tablets of 5 mg/1000 mg. If there is no prior experience with diabetes medication treatment, a recommended initial dose is 5 mg/500 mg or 10 mg/500 mg once daily. To reduce gastrointestinal side effects of metformin, the dosage should be adjusted gradually.
This medication is used to lower blood sugar, and caution should be exercised as there is a risk of a rare side effect known as severe lactic acidosis. This drug may cause a risk of hypoglycemia when used with other diabetes medications, so hypoglycemic symptoms should be closely monitored. It should not be administered to patients with impaired renal function, dehydration, or serious infections, and use should be discontinued for a certain period before and after surgery. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and it should be avoided in patients with a history of hypersensitivity. This drug may cause a reduction in fluid volume or hypotension, so particular attention should be paid to blood pressure and fluid status, especially in elderly patients or those taking diuretics. While taking this medication, genital infections or urinary tract infections may occur, so any related symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so regular blood tests are necessary if used long term. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects; therefore, excessive drinking should be avoided during treatment. Dosage adjustments may be necessary if taken with medications that carry a risk of hypoglycemia, and hypoglycemic symptoms should always be closely monitored. Although this medication does not significantly impact the ability to drive or operate machinery, caution is needed as symptoms like dizziness may occur. When storing the medication, keep it out of reach of children and store in its original container to maintain quality.
