Improvement of blood glucose control and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used to assist the dietary and exercise regimen for blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other therapies. Special attention should be paid when used in patients with type 2 diabetes who do not have adequate blood glucose control and confirmed cardiovascular disease. This medication helps improve diabetes treatment by aiding glycemic management.
The recommended dose for this medication is 10 mg once daily for monotherapy and additional combination therapy with insulin or other blood glucose-lowering agents. If this medication at 10 mg is well tolerated and additional blood glucose control is needed, the dose may be increased to 25 mg once daily. When administered in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin, a reduction in their doses may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
This medication should not be used in patients with known allergies to the main ingredient or other components. It may be risky to administer this medication to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is not suitable for patients with severely impaired kidney function, end-stage kidney disease, or those undergoing dialysis. Patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take this medication as it contains lactose. Patients with mildly impaired kidney function should use this medication cautiously, and if kidney function decreases below a certain threshold, treatment should be discontinued. In severe heart failure stages, use of this medication is not recommended, and caution is needed in mild stage patients as well. When used in conjunction with blood glucose-lowering agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, dose adjustment may be needed due to the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication may cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, genital infections, urinary tract infections, increased urination, decreased body fluid volume, and should be monitored for these symptoms. Serious metabolic abnormalities such as ketoacidosis can occur, and immediate treatment is required if related symptoms appear. Elderly patients or those at risk of fluid volume loss should be cautious of dehydration and low blood pressure, and monitoring hydration status is important. This medication may increase the risk of genital fungal infections, so patients with a history of infections should use it carefully. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia, especially when combined with other blood glucose-lowering agents. Use of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended, and it should be discontinued if pregnancy is confirmed. Breastfeeding women should discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication, as it may affect the baby through breast milk. It is not used in children under 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. No specific toxic symptoms have been reported in cases of overdose, but appropriate treatment may be necessary depending on the clinical scenario. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature to safely maintain the medication's effectiveness.
