This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily just before bedtime, and can be taken independently of food. The initial recommended dose of Donepezil Hydrochloride is 5 mg once daily. For 4 to 6 weeks, 5 mg is administered and clinical response is evaluated before it can be increased to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg, caution should be exercised for gastrointestinal adverse reactions. For a minimum of 3 months, 10 mg is taken once daily.

Precautions

This medicine should not be used by women who are allergic to certain ingredients, or are pregnant or nursing. Patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Caution is required for those with heart disease or cardiac conduction disorders, as this medication may affect heart rhythms. Patients with a history of peptic ulcers or those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should closely monitor their gastrointestinal symptoms. Patients with a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may experience worsened symptoms when using this medication, so careful consideration is needed.
