Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, patients allergic to the main ingredient or other components of this medication, those with Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and patients before and after major surgeries or those with severe infections should not use this medication. Additionally, it should be administered cautiously to patients with severely impaired liver function or heart failure, and use is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. Patients taking sulfonylureas or insulin, those with poor nutritional status or irregular eating habits, those who have exercised intensely, and those who consume excessive alcohol are at risk of hypoglycemia and should take caution. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction, or those with heart disease associated with QT interval prolongation should also take care when using this medication. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur while taking this medication; if symptoms arise, it is vital to consume sugary foods, and especially when used with alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, glucose administration is necessary. Serious side effects like liver dysfunction, pneumonia, skin rashes, and acute pancreatitis may present; therefore, immediate consultation with a doctor is required if any unusual symptoms occur. This medication may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used along with other diabetes medications such as insulin or sulfonylureas; thus, adjustments to the dosages of other medications may be needed. Women who are pregnant or nursing should carefully consider using this medication, and safety and efficacy have not been established in children. For the elderly, it is crucial to monitor their condition carefully, as physiological functions may deteriorate. In cases of overdose, standard treatment along with supportive therapy appropriate to the patient's condition should be conducted, and the medication should be kept out of reach of children. Care should be taken when driving or working at heights during treatment, as there is a risk of hypoglycemia. Furthermore, this medication may interact with certain drugs, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken.
