Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medicine helps to control blood sugar for patients with type 2 diabetes by assisting with diet and exercise. It can be used alone for initial treatment, and if blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy, it may be used in combination with metformin. Additionally, when blood sugar cannot be adequately controlled with other diabetes medications such as sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, this medicine can be added to manage blood sugar. This medicine is also used to improve treatment effectiveness in various combination therapy scenarios where blood sugar control is not smooth.
In monotherapy or combination therapy, administer 100 mg once daily with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. It can be taken regardless of meals. For patients with kidney impairment, dose adjustment is necessary according to renal function. 1. Mild renal impairment (eGFR ≥ 60 and < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2): no dose adjustment required. 2. This medicine may cause severe allergic reactions after administration; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rashes or difficulty breathing occur, you must stop taking it immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, severe pancreatitis can occur, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite appear, immediate medical attention is necessary. This medicine should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and it should not be administered in cases of allergies to this drug or its components. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dose adjustments due to increased drug concentration and should take it strictly according to their physician's guidance. Hypoglycemia may occur while taking this medication, so particular caution is advised when it is taken with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas. If severe joint pain or skin blisters appear, you should inform your physician immediately, and drug discontinuation may be necessary. It is advisable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding not to take this medicine, and safety and effectiveness have not been adequately established in children under 18 years old. Elderly patients are more susceptible to reduced kidney function, so it is important to check kidney function before taking and periodically during treatment. In case of overdose, immediate medical treatment is necessary, and since this drug can be partially removed by hemodialysis, dialysis treatment may be considered if needed.
