Improvement of blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to assist with blood sugar control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used as monotherapy, and if blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy alone, it may be administered in combination with metformin, pioglitazone, sulfonylureas, insulin, or DPP-4 inhibitors such as linagliptin. In particular, for patients with type 2 diabetes who have accompanying cardiovascular disease, refer to professional guidelines regarding the improvement of blood sugar control and impact on the occurrence of cardiovascular events. This medication helps effectively control blood sugar, aiding in the management of diabetes.
The recommended dosage of this medication is 10 mg once daily for monotherapy and additional combination therapy with other blood glucose-lowering agents such as insulin. If tolerance is good at 10 mg and further blood sugar control is needed, the dose may be increased to 25 mg once daily. This medication can be administered regardless of meals. The tablets should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered.
This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to the active ingredient or any of the components. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with severely impaired renal function, those with end-stage kidney disease, or those on dialysis should not take this medication. Since lactose is included in this medication, it should not be administered to patients with genetic problems such as lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance. For patients with mildly impaired renal function, this medication should be given with caution and if renal function continues to deteriorate, dosage should be adjusted or discontinued. Some patients with heart failure have limited experience with this medication, so it should be used cautiously and is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. When used in conjunction with blood glucose lowering agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, there is a risk of hypoglycemia; therefore, dosage adjustments of these drugs may be necessary. This medication may cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, urinary tract infections, genital infections, increased urination, decreased fluid volume, etc., so caution is advised. Especially in elderly patients or those at risk of fluid volume loss, care should be taken against dehydration and hypotension, and regular monitoring of renal function is important. Serious metabolic abnormalities, such as ketoacidosis, may occur, so immediately inform medical staff if symptoms appear. It is recommended that pregnant or breastfeeding women do not use this medication, and it should be ceased immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Safety and efficacy have not been established for children under the age of 18, so it should not be used in this population. No specific toxic reactions have been reported in cases of overdose, but appropriate treatment should be provided according to clinical condition. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking any other medications, inform your healthcare provider and proceed with caution. Caution is needed while driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia. While taking this medication, pay attention to regular foot care and prevention of genital infections, and consult immediately if there are any abnormal symptoms.
