Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be taken alone or in combination with other medications, alongside diet and exercise therapy. This helps to effectively manage blood sugar levels and improve diabetes symptoms.
- For monotherapy or in cases with no previous experience of diabetes medication, administer 50 mg once daily in the morning when used with metformin, or 100 mg divided into 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening). - When combined with metformin or thiazolidinediones, the recommended dose is 100 mg divided into 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening). - When combined with sulfonylureas, administer 50 mg once daily in the morning.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient or any other components should not take it. It should also not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Additionally, since it contains lactose, it should not be used in patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic disorders. During the use of this medication, liver function abnormalities may rarely occur, so regular liver function tests should be performed. If liver enzymes significantly exceed normal ranges, the medication should be discontinued. If symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, especially when taken with sulfonylureas, increasing the risk. Therefore, if taken with such medications, be vigilant for symptoms of hypoglycemia and dosage adjustments may be required. During the course of this medication, symptoms such as dizziness, headache, dyspepsia, and constipation may occur; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult with healthcare professionals. There is a risk of acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, you should visit a hospital immediately. If pancreatitis is confirmed, this medication should be discontinued and not be re-administered. This medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. The safety in pregnant women has not been established, and safety has not been confirmed in breastfeeding women. Elderly patients (65 years or older) do not require special dosage adjustment, but it is advisable to avoid using it in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) as safety and effectiveness have not been established. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so supportive treatment will be done based on symptoms, and this medication itself cannot be removed by hemodialysis. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. Symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness may occur after ingestion, so it is advisable to avoid driving in such cases. If unusual symptoms such as blisters or ulcers on the skin appear, inform healthcare providers immediately, and the medication should be discontinued and discussed with a specialist if necessary. Interactions with other medications are unlikely, but blood sugar control may be reduced when taken with certain medications, so it is important to consult a physician or pharmacist regarding any other current medications. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and transferring it to other containers may impair quality, so caution is advised.
