This medication is used to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. It is primarily administered as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or familial and non-familial cases. Additionally, it serves as an adjunctive therapy in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other treatments are ineffective and helps reduce cardiovascular risk. This medication should be used in conjunction with diet, and it is crucial to manage secondary causes such as diabetes or hypothyroidism. Regular checks of total cholesterol and various lipid levels help maintain appropriate treatment. Therefore, this medication is effectively used in the treatment of dyslipidemia.
