Effect of reducing blood sugar in type 2 diabetes and risk of cardiovascular disease
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as monotherapy, and in cases where previous diabetes medication experience is lacking or blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy, it can be used in combination with metformin. Furthermore, this medication can be used as an adjunct to metformin monotherapy or other combinations when adequate blood sugar control is not achieved. It can also be used in conjunction with insulin therapy, particularly when blood sugar control is difficult, to achieve optimal therapeutic effects with various combination therapies. This medication is appropriately used in individuals with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases who have inadequate blood sugar control. Overall, this medication is used to effectively improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The recommended dosage of this medication is 10 mg once daily for monotherapy and in additional combination therapy with insulin or other blood glucose-lowering agents. If tolerance is excellent and further blood glucose control is needed, the dosage can be increased to 25 mg once daily. When this drug is used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin, consideration may be given to decreasing the dosages of sulfonylureas or insulin to lower the risk of hypoglycemia. This drug

When used with insulin or insulin secretagogues, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, necessitating adjustment of these medications' dosages. This medication may cause adverse reactions such as hypoglycemia, urinary tract infections, genital infections, increased urination, and fluid volume reduction, so careful observation is needed if symptoms occur. Particularly, serious metabolic acidosis known as ketoacidosis may occur, so treatment should be immediately stopped, and a healthcare professional consulted if related symptoms appear. In elderly patients, especially those aged 75 and older, there is a higher risk of fluid volume loss, so careful use is required. This drug may increase the risk of severe infections like urosepsis, pyelonephritis, and perineal necrosis, so immediate hospital visits are necessary if infection symptoms appear. During treatment with this drug, it may affect the testing methods for blood sugar control, so the 1,5-AG test is not recommended for blood sugar monitoring. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should avoid taking this drug, and breastfeeding mothers should also avoid it. The safety and effectiveness in children under 18 have not been confirmed, so it should not be used in this population.
