Improvement of lipids by reducing cholesterol and increasing HDL in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels and to increase HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It may also be used in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as an adjunct or alternative to other lipid-lowering therapies. This drug helps improve vascular health through lipid control in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. It should be applied along with dietary modifications, and is used when other non-medical therapies are insufficient. It is important to identify and treat any secondary causes of dyslipidemia before initiation. Overall, this medication effectively improves hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.
This drug is administered once daily, regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is 10/10 mg to 10/80 mg daily. A starting dose of 10/10 mg or 10/20 mg daily is recommended. For patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL cholesterol (more than 55%), a starting dose of 10/40 mg daily is recommended. Dosage adjustments should be made after measuring serum lipid levels again after an interval of at least 2 weeks.
This medication can cause serious muscle problems, so caution is necessary, especially in patients with symptoms of acute myopathy or with renal function issues. Patients allergic to any component of this drug or those with severe liver disease, muscle disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this drug. Patients with alcoholism, weakened liver function, high risk of myopathy, elderly patients, and those taking certain medications need to use this drug cautiously. This medication may cause side effects such as muscle pain, abdominal pain, and elevated liver enzymes; if any adverse effects occur, consult a physician immediately. Liver function and muscle status should be monitored regularly before and during the use of this drug, particularly if muscle pain or weakness symptoms appear. This drug can interact with other medications, so patients taking other drugs must inform their doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should ensure adequate contraception while taking this drug; breastfeeding women are advised not to take this drug. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established in children, hence its use is not recommended. Elderly patients should be cautious due to the higher risk of myopathy, although dose adjustment is generally not necessary. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function should avoid this medication or use it with special caution. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes available, so treatment should be symptomatic and supportive, while monitoring liver function and muscle enzyme levels. This drug should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container. Caution is needed while driving or operating machinery as dizziness and other symptoms may occur.
